Penn State Altoona men’s swimming coach, players earn AMCC honors

On Monday, May 15, the NCAA Division III Softball Committee released its field of 62 teams that will compete in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament, sending the Penn State Altoona softball team to compete in the Cleveland, Ohio regional bracket.

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona swimming head coach Brad Brooks was selected the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Men’s Coach of the Year, and eight Lions men’s swimmers officially earned All-Conference status, as the league office announced its postseason men’s swimming awards on Friday, Feb. 28.

Brooks, in his seventh year at the helm of the Penn State Altoona swimming program, was voted the AMCC’s men’s swimming coach of the year by his peers from around the conference. The Lions had their best finish in last week’s AMCC Championships since the 2013-14 season, with this year’s edition of the Penn State Altoona men’s swimming team finishing as the conference runner-up and scoring 376 points across the four-day meet. In the regular season, Penn State Altoona men’s swimming established a new single-season team record for dual meet wins, as the Lions posted a 9-1-1 overall head-to-head record during the 2024-25 season.

Additionally, a total of eight Penn State Altoona men’s swimmers officially got All-AMCC status, which was determined by their finishes in last week’s conference championships. Caden Traggiai, of Sarver, and Hunter McMullen, of Colver, each took spots on the first team of the all-conference squad, thanks to their wins in conference events last week. Traggiai and McMullen also picked up second-team status, as did Adam Dotts, of Hummelstown, Eugene Heyman, of Boiling Springs, Lincoln Johnson, of Huntingtown, Rocco Solimeo, of Harrisburg, Benjamin Dotts, of Hummelstown, and Nick Trabucco, of Carlisle.

First-eam All-AMCC

100 Yard Butterfly, Hunter McMullen: McMullen took AMCC gold in the 100 Yard Butterfly during day three of the conference championships on Feb. 21. He placed first among all AMCC swimmers with a time of 51.17, which set a new Penn State Altoona men’s swimming record in that event.

500 Yard Freestyle, Caden Traggiai: Traggiai achieved a first-place AMCC finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle during day two of the conference championships on Feb. 20.He clocked in at 4:39.58 to finish atop the AMCC pack and also set a new Lions team record for that swim.

Second-Team All-AMCC

200 Yard Freestyle, Adam Dotts: Dotts earned AMCC runner-up status in the 200 Yard Freestyle in night three of the conference championships, finishing in 1:47.16.

200 Yard Butterfly, Hunter McMullen: McMullen got second-team all-conference honors by virtue of his second place in the 200 Yard Butterfly during the fourth and final day of the AMCC Championships on Feb. 22. He recorded a time of 1:59.60 to place second in the AMCC.

1,650 Yard Freestyle, Caden Traggiai: Traggiai set another team record in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle in day four of the AMCC Championships. His time of 16:21.72 placed him second in the AMCC standings for that swim, and it also established a new team record time.

200 Yard Medley Relay, Eugene Heyman, Adam Dotts, Hunter McMullen, Rocco Solimeo: Heyman, Dotts, McMullen, and Solimeo combined for a time of 1:34.73 to finish in second place in the AMCC in the 200 Yard Medley Relay during the opening night of the conference championships on Feb. 19. The foursome’s time also set a new Penn State Altoona men’s swimming record for that event.

400 Yard Medley Relay, Eugene Heyman, Benjamin Dotts, Hunter McMullen, Caden Traggiai: In day three of the AMCC Championships, Heyman, Dotts, McMullen, and Traggiai totaled a time of 3:37.32 to earn second place in the conference standings for the 400 Yard Medley Relay.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Lincoln Johnson, Hunter McMullen, Rocco Solimeo, Adam Dotts: Johnson, McMullen, Solimeo, and Dotts earned second place in the conference standings during the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay on day two of the AMCC Championships, after they combined for a time of 1:25.37. That time also set a new Lions men’s swimming record in that event.

400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Lincoln Johnson, Caden Traggiai, Rocco Solimeo, Adam Dotts: Johnson, Traggiai, Solimeo, and Dotts came together for a time of 3:13.15 to nab second place in the AMCC in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, during the fourth day of the conference championships.

800 Yard Freestyle Relay, Caden Traggiai, Adam Dotts, Rocco Solimeo, Nick Trabucco: During night one of the AMCC Championships, Traggiai, Dotts, Solimeo, and Trabucco finished with a total time of 7:12.84 to clinch conference runner-up status in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay.
